Energy developer Tilt Renewables proposes to build a big battery next to their Snowtown Wind Farm 1 sub-station, on Wokurna Road, 10 km north-west of Snowtown (past the Heinrich quarry).

Tilt explains the Snowtown BESS will
improve electricity grid reliability
store low-cost wind electricity when there is an oversupply
enable energy export to South Australia when needed
reduce the frequency of blackouts
reduce the need for 'load shedding' when supplies are in "imbalance''
The power of Snowtown BESS will be 100MW /400MWH, the same as the Latrobe Valley BESS, and be able to output a maximum of 100 MW for four hours.
The Benefits to Snowtown community will be
A $60,000 annual community benefit fund
approximately 100 full-time construction jobs
increasing the need for local goods and services
offering a reliable and affordable energy supply

Project Timeline:
2024 - environmental assessments of the proposed site
Early 2025 - environmental and technical studies
Mid-2025 - Community Drop-in sessions (see above) , concept design
Late-2025 - Public consultation on Environmental Impact Report and on the Statement of Environmental Objectives
Early 2026 - Assessment by Department for Energy and Mining
